Limehouse Books is an independent publishing house based in East London that I've been freelancing for over the last few years. This year they published three very different titles and seeing as their last publication of the year was released last week (Love Notes To Men Who Don't Read) it seemed a good time to do an overview post on the books I've played a part in designing for Limehouse in 2016.
1. Glass Scissors by Bobby Nayyar
A collection of poetry by Bobby Nayyar (also publisher and managing director of Limehouse Books). The collection is split into three chapters with the end pages designed to resemble an artex ceiling with a crack increasing in the corner of each page. In the first drafts we tried quite a few different colours for the cover but found them all a bit garish till we found the deep orange and teal a good combo that complimented the photo.
The Open Pen Anthology is a collection of short fiction from the first five years of Open Pen Magazine (2011-2016) as well as new fiction from each of the selected authors. The front cover is by illustrator Josh Neal who does a lot of the Magazine's illustrations. The main body of work for this was typesetting the text as they knew exactly what the design/cover should look like so it was just a case of putting it all together.
3. Love Notes To Men Who Don't Read by North Morgan
"North's writing is smart, sharp and laced with a knowing wit." - Paul Burston
